PIC SCHEME

Cost incurred in relation to trade mark registration and domain name registration is a qualifying expenditure which entitles businesses (big or small) to a 60% cash payout or 400% tax rebate AND up to $15000 cash bonus. Whilst the PIC (Productivity and Innovation Credit) Scheme generally will be extended to YA 2018, the cash bonus scheme may not be extended beyond YA 2015. Hurry, so as to meet the 31 December 2014 deadline!

Singapore Budget 2015 Highlight: The PIC Bonus has been allowed to expire on 31 December 2014. The PIC+ and main PIC Scheme will continue for 3 more years, until 31 December 2017.

Singapore Budget 2016 Highlight: With effect from 1 August 2016, the cash payout under the PIC Scheme will be lowered from 60% to 40%.
PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION ACT (PDPA)

The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) came into full effect on 2 July 2014. The obligations imposed on organizations go beyond the Do-Not-Call rules.
For example, organisations are required to make reasonable security arrangements to protect personal data in their possession or under their control in order to prevent unauthorised access, collection, use or similar risks.
An offence under the PDPA attracts a fine of up to $1million or 3 years imprisonment.
